Consultations

All consultations are made by appointment, except in emergency situations. Please phone 6496 3322, to make your appointment. Please let the Receptionists know if you require urgent attention, or if you need additional time for your consultations. If you are unable to obtain an appointment with the GP of your choice, you will be advised of the availability of other GP’s at this time.


Emergency Consultations

Accidents and emergencies take precedence over routine appointments, should it become necessary for an urgent case to be seen before your scheduled appointment, please be patient.

After Hours Care

Should you require urgent attention outside surgery hours, one of our doctors is on 24 hour call. Please phone the surgery number 6496 3322, and you will be given details of how to contact the doctor on call. In emergency, the ambulance service can be contacted on 000. Pambula District Hospital also offers a 24 hour service, staffed by local doctors. On some occasions, the doctor on call for this practice will be at Pambula District Hospital. The hospital contact number is 6495 8200.


Home Visits

Home visits can be arranged at suitable times for regular patients of the clinic, who are unable to attend the practice due to medical reasons.

Dr. Ajesh Shrestha

Dr Ajesh Shrestha graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2013 from the University of Sydney. After 3 years of experience at Concord Hospital in Sydney he is now working with us as a GP registrar. He enjoys the variety of presentations in general practice and has special interests in preventive medicine, dermatology and minor procedures. Dr Donald Reed graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bach. Surgery from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, 1982. Moving to Canada in 1985, he was certified with The Canadian College of Family Physicians and awarded a fellowship. Don joined Curalo in 2005 and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Don’s extensive general practice experience includes paediatrics to geriatrics, obstetrics, minor surgical procedures, hospital, emergency and remote medicine. Don enjoys teaching medical students, initially through the University of British Columbia, and now through The Australian National University. He spends part of his year working in remote indigenous communities. Don enjoys building robots and studying robotics in his “spare time”.

Dr. Sampsa Kallinen graduated in medicine in 2010 in Finland. Following graduation Sam gained experience in General Practice and also as a surgical registrar including work in accident and emergency. Sam enjoys all aspects of General Practice from paediatrics to geriatrics but has particular interests in skin cancers and minor surgery. Sam relocated to Australia in 2014 and has quickly learnt to appreciate the climate and enjoys the people and our culture.

Dr Michael Pentin graduated from Manchester University, UK, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and completed post-graduate studies in Obstetrics. Michael joined Curalo in 1992, obtaining a Fellowship with the Australian College of Remote and Rural Medicine in 2000. He has over thirty years of medical experience and has continually worked as a Medical Officer at Pambula District Hospital including in the Accident and Emergency department. Michael has a special interest in skin cancer diagnosis and management. A passionate fisherman, he enjoys trying his luck out on the ocean.

Dr Janice Nelson graduated from Monash University, Victoria with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. In 1989, Janice and her husband Dr Graeme Nelson moved to Eden and established Curalo Medical Clinic. Janice enjoys all facets of rural medicine but finds developmental paediatrics and women’s health of special interest. Janice is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has completed post-graduate training in Women’s and Children’s Health. Janice is an avid reader who loves the outdoors, bushwalking and gardening. Being a grandmother and spending time with her family, gives her great joy.

Practice Manager

A local girl, Barb left in 1982 to explore the world returning in 1995 to raise her family in Eden. She gained experience in customer service and administration roles and then moved into banking. Barb joined Curalo in 2006 as a receptionist, and in November 2012 took on the position of Practice Manager and has subsequently completed her Diploma in Professional Practice Management. Barb loves to travel, spending most of her spare time planning her next adventure.

Podiatrist

Paul graduated with a Bachelors Degree (distinction) in Podiatry from the University of Newcastle. An internship at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle saw him mentored in diabetic foot care, nail surgery and biomechanics. Additional experience includes assessing and treating foot injuries, vascular assessments, general foot and nail care, orthotic prescription and exercise rehabilitation. Also a Registered Nurse with postgraduate qualifications in intensive and coronary care, Paul works in private practice and has 16 years of experience as a health professional. A Bega Valley local, Paul returned with his wife to raise their children in the country. His interests include cricket, spearfishing, hiking, cycling and strumming his guitar.

Belinda has brought 38 years of nursing experience to our clinic. Training at the University of Wollongong. Since graduation she has worked at various hospitals in NSW and Victoria, having a Peri- Operative background. More recently Belinda has worked in the General Practice nursing sector as a Registered Nurse. Belinda has enjoyed the move to our practice and supporting our GP's with their care of our patients. Belinda has completed her Immunisation studies an is an Accredited Nurse Immuniser. She enjoys working with our patients and is interested in wound management, chronic disease management and the everyday challenges practice nursing has to offer. Belinda moved down to the South Coast after several years of working Inland. Her family enjoy the outdoors, camping, fishing and heading to the beach.

Rebecca has brought a wealth of nursing experience to our clinic. Originally training at Monash University in Churchill. Since graduation she has worked at various General Hospitals in Victoria. More recently Bec has worked in the Community Health sector as a Registered Nurse, providing home nursing to those unable to attend a Medical Clinic. Bec has loved the change to General Practice and has really enjoyed getting to know our patients and supporting the GP's with their care. She has recently completed her Immunisation studies and is now an Accredited Nurse Immuniser. She enjoys working with our elderly patients and is organising our Aged Care Assesments and Health Checks. Bec has moved back to the South Coast after several years of travelling and then starting a family. Her family enjoy the great outdoors spending time camping, fishing and heading to the beach.

As a Registered Nurse with twelve years experience in General Practice, Sam’s special interest is in the education and management of patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, respiratory disease and heart disease. Sam is an Accredited Nurse Immuniser and enjoys working with young families and children. Sam enjoys spending time with her young family and making the most of our beautiful bush and coastline.

Bulk billing can be negotiated according to need.


Fees for other related medical services e.g. vaccinations, longer consultations etc. are available from reception. We accept V.A. cards. If you are having trouble with payment of your account, please discuss this with your doctor.

Curalo Medical Clinic is now on-line with Medicare Australia. If payment is made in full on the day, we can request your rebate of approximately $37.00 be directly credited via your EFTPOS card to your bank account. Alternatively, a cheque can be issued from Medicare Australia in your name.

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorized members of staff. A full copy of our Privacy Policy is attached to the notice board in reception. Please ask the reception staff, if you require a copy of our policy. You are entitled to request a copy of your medical records, this request must be in writing and will be dealt with according to our privacy policy.


If you have a problem, please let us know, either by discussing the matter with your doctor, or with one of our reception staff. If you would prefer, write to us, or use our suggestion box. We take your concerns, suggestions and complaints seriously and confidentiality can be assured.

Dr Kallinen is fluent in Finnish, Swedish, Spanish and German and our practice can provide access to a Translating and Interpreter Service to provide adequate care for patients who are not proficient in the primary languages of our clinical team and/ or have communication impairment.

You can contact your doctor during surgery hours by telephone. However, a message will be taken when the doctor concerned is with another patient. Urgent calls will be put through immediately.

Your doctor will advise when they expect the results to arrive at the practice. Call the clinic to arrange a suitable appointment time, as required, to discuss these results.
